To be honest, Steve was never really one for sports, though he did like a good baseball game every now and then, but to him, the only team his ever backed was America. His love for his country was stronger then anything else, even his love for the Avengers. Still, he understood where MVP was coming from, and felt that his passion for helping his team was just as strong as his own, for fighting to defend the people of America. "Just remember, unlike football, you're not fighting for a trophy or ring, you're fighting for the lives of everyone you care about, and people you don't even know. You're not a small town hero or a sports phenom, you're a protector of people, when you put on the uniform of a hero, which is why I don't want to force you into this. If you're going to become a hero, you must do so with all your heart and soul. You must desire to protect people above all else, otherwise you're wasting your time."
He wasn't trying to put the boy down, or scare him, but instead make him understand that this wasn't a game. He wanted him to understand that there was no second place for heroes, just a tombstone. He had seen more then his share of heroes die in battle, which was the main thing he wanted to avoid with this generation of young heroes. He was tired of watching kids who weren't ready, go out and get slaughtered in battles they weren't prepared for. "Take your time before you decide, Michael. And remember that no one will think any less of you, if you decided to live a regular life, away form the costumes and capes."
