Darkness… Blink Screams… Blink... Clarice… Another Voice…
…Let me go yuir killin’ me!...
…You brought it on yourself!... He screamed back in anger and hatred.
…No! yuir No Murderer! Ye made a sacred oath! I saw it in yuir mind!...
The light was so bright and it burns his metal hand as he grips the creature’s throat.
…Calvin, LISTEN tae that little voice in yuir heart—the one that says…
I hesitate… why… because I didn’t want to kill anymore… but… they needed me, Clarice needed me…
…Ha-Ha!..Made ye Hesitate!...ye had yuir shot at me…
Then darkness… nothingness… until now…
“Ohhh what the hell hit me.” Calvin groaned as he awoke to the sound of squawking above and bestial roaring in the distance. “Clarice… you… ok?” He groaned and looked up expecting to see his purple skinned love and sighed only to see the crater in which he lay and the dense jungle surrounding him from whence the sounds of ferocious animals came from.
“Ok… I don’t seem to be in Kansas anymore… or New York for that matter.” He shook his head and stood slowly on wobbly and pained legs. “Well… unless this is New York circa 65 million BC…” He chuckled and fell over again with a growl of pain only to see two clawed feet standing at the edge of the crater. “Uh…” He paused and looked up the scaly, long muscular legs which held up a 6 foot tall, 20 feet long drooling lizard. “…Oh… By any chance, you would not be related to Barney?” He grinned nervously as what was a dinosaur stared at him with unblinking eyes then leapt into the air and down towards him with a long hook like claw on its foot ready to slice and dice him.
“Thought not!” He snarled and looked to his hands as three large bone claws sprung from each. He felt the rage and energy build up in him allowing him to leap upwards in a sideways motion, avoiding the raptors claws and sinking his own into its side. The side of the beast ripped apart like paper being cut by scissors and then…
Bang!!!
His face again met with the ground and the taste of dirt and blood stained his mouth. “Not… Cool…” He shook his head and groaned. “Not cool… at…” He paused again looking over at the dead lizards body and then up at the other end of the crater to see two more… “Aww…What is this… pick on Mimic day?!” He sighed and nodded feeling his body become cold and hard, his skin and bone claws shifting into a shining metallic substance known to be stronger then most metals known to man. “Ok beasties… bring it on because I need the work out!” He shouted only to see the other too advance a few steps then stop and look up into the air. “What? Come on I am ready… I mean I can’t really use my legs and my arms hurt like a bitch but I'm ready! Come on!” He shouted out again just as the man sized monsters turned and ran off from whence they came.
“Ok why did they do that?” Calvin pondered the question he asked himself out loud though the answer presented itself rather quickly as the beautiful, green jungle trees in the distance parted and the 27 feet tall 40 feet long king of the dinosaurs, better known as Tyrannosaurus Rex, appeared with a drooling mouth fool of razor sharp teeth and its beady little eyes focused on Mimic.
"Uh... you would not happen to be related to Barney either would you?" He chuckled nervously. "I mean I was ready for them... they were... well... your big you know that?!"
The lizard king took no notice at what noises its prey was making, it hungered for fresh meat... fresh blood and this little thing was the perfect target despite its shining appearance…
Seemingly helpless.
But Calvin Rankin aka Mimic was far from ever helpless, not with the powers of several other mutants inside. He glared at the T-Rex as it roared in pure anger and aggression while taking to earth shaking steps towards him. "Shoo... Shoo boy... go get another chew toy!" He called out as he felt his eyes starting to glow and heat up. The dinosaur obviously didn’t listen as it advanced on him faster and faster.
1...2....3....
Its jaws were agape over him in no time, the lizards breath enough to wilt grass in Mimic's opinion and its drool as thick as K-Y Jelly as it dripped down on his head. None the less he had no time to ponder or gag and the disgusting monsters smell....
BAM!!!
Cyclops’s optic blast fired from his eyes right into the wide jaws of the king of dinosaurs, pushing it back and then off its feet. It lay there groaning 6 meters away, its teeth completely vaporized and the inside of its mouth cauterized with burns it may never heal from but alive none the less. He did not wanna kill the beast, it was only looking for food and he hated to kill period. He had used a lower level blast knowing it would only wound and stop the T-Rex.
Calvin lay there looking up into the sky, gasping for air and seeing clearly the sky getting dark. "What a day!" He looked over to the massive dinosaur. "I would refer you to my dentist but... well... you get the point." he sighed and looked up to the purpling sky and the stars starting to twinkle above. It would soon be night and he needed to move before it got too dark. Sitting out in the open like this meant certain death... he had fought off several predators so far but he was tired and he knew he could not keep it up forever...
Crawling from the crater he again attempted to stand on his legs which still felt sickeningly like Jell-O yet this time, to his surprise, stayed up for longer then 2 seconds. “Well…” He suddenly fell to his knees with a groan looked to the distance where a large… no a massive tree stood. A tree that looked unmovable even for a lizard as big as the one groaning several feet away. “…that was progress… if I’m lucky I could make it to that tree by… hmmm Christmas?!” He glared down to his own legs and the crater he had been laying in. “Now… I promise… as soon as I find some hot springs… if you work with me… I will bath you in them for a full day! Lets just make it too that tree and camp out in it… sound good?” He wiggled his own foot in response and nodded as if there were some unspoken understanding with his own limbs then pushed himself up again and started towards the tree at a very slow pace.
2 hours, 15 falls and over 100 curses and uses of vulgar language later he had made it and managed to climb to the top most branches. There he lay looking out over a good portion of this prehistoric valley knowing for the next little while, until he could find a way out… it was his home.
BANG!!! BOOM!! BOOM!! CRASH!!!
“What the HELL was that!” He shouted out and rushed to the window of his make shift tree house, a home he had built with his own hands not long after realizing that… without outside help he was not getting out of this valley. He watched in awe as a streak of light brightened the night sky, whooshing over head and shaking the very floor, tree and ground under his feet. “Who girl… don’t you come apart on me now! I just fixed you up after that fight with the Mutates… I don’t feel like any construction work for a while!”
The streak passed over head; to big to be a comet and he knew that for he had seen several of those in his time in this prehistoric paradise not to mention other strange phenomena. No this was something new and he had to find out what it was.
The crash of the object shook the whole Savage Land valley and it was sure, by the sound of the land around, the dinosaurs were in an uproar. No doubt the Mutates, Sauron and the Ape Men also knew about this thing. He would have to be quick and he knew it as his feet hit the ground below seconds after his skin transformed into its organic metal appearance. “Now… Ka-Zar is no down on his way with Zabu and Shana… which means I don’t need to inform them… but I better hot foot it if I wanna beat them all… or at least beat the dangerous ones.” He smirked and moved off into the jungle quickly hoping that he got their first or that backup was behind or ahead of him when he did arrive.
To Calvin’s surprise and luck it had not landed very far at all but it had made a very big impact for the crater this object lay in was, by his estimation 15 feet deep and 33 feet wide… far bigger then the one he had woken up in that was for sure. “Trying to out do me huh?!” He shook his head with a grin as he looked around. Yes he was alone… not for long but he had to see what this was….
He leapt down into the crater and moved quickly to the center there finding an orb of light shimmering and shining brightly under the dust. “Well this is…. Different…” He cocked an eyebrow in confusion while kneeling down and attempting to touch it…
His eyes opened moments later and he was 6 feet away from the glowing object, his body smoking and every muscle feeling aches and pains as if having been beaten severally. “Ok…. What the hell happened?” He moaned and sat up looking at the marks in the dirt, one long line about the size of his body.
“You were thrown back like the pathetic rag doll you are mutant!” A familiar screeching voice sounded from above.
“On now… this just makes my night… Sauron… what the hell….” Calvin stopped as he looked up at the 7 foot tall pterodactyl man who stood with hands on hips over the glowing orb. “And it seems from your blundering that this… thing… cannot be touched.” He snarled and kneeled down, hovering a clawed green hand just above the peculiar space object while making sure not to touch it directly. “I can feel its energy… and it is expanding… look now mutant invader, its energy field is already bigger then when you found it.”
Calvin stared closely at the thing and nodded, the evil beast was right, the glowing energy surrounding whatever it the thing was had indeed slightly increased in size since his little black out and it was even growing now in front of his eyes. “How big do you think it will get?” He asked out loud not truly towards Sauron even if it sounded like it.
The green villain laughed as he extended out his 12 foot wing span and took to the air again. “I do not know but it does not matter… neither you and I can take this thing for our own until that energy is gone. And for me, with Brain Child and The Mutates help it will not be long before this mystery is in the hands of Sauron!” He cackled moving higher into the air and then away into the night, no doubt to Calvin to head off the Mutates and inform them of his discovery, make a deal with them and begin work on taking the… thing….
“Well… this is… good.” He slowly stood again and once more approached the glowing orb. “This really isn’t good….”
(One Week Ago)
"Yes, the Mutates have not been able to peirce the orb which glows but with the help of Sauron and their half machine Dinosaurs they did move it to their stronghold." Ka'Zar spoke gruffly as he reported what he had seen and drank heavily from a canister of water Calvin handed him and placed a bowl of water down for Zabu the Sabertooth Tiger. "We tracked them far, the orb is quite large now and with every attack on it grows larger. We could not get close though when they camped... their half metal beasts were always awake and alert."
"Yeah those Cyborg Dino's suck..." Calvin chuckled and sliced open a mellon with a stone knife and handed his savage ally half. "But the question is how long can we let that thing sit in Sauron and Brainchilds hands? How long will it take that balloon headed midget with the over inflated ego to get past that energy feild to whatever is inside?" He cocked his eyebrow and sat down at the wood table he had carved himself and reclined in the chair with a sigh.
"I Know not, Shanna watches them, not far from their base but she cannot see through metal walls as I cannot. I go to meet her soon" Ka'Zar replied and stood eating the last bit of his half of melon a little slobberingly which made Calvin grimace a little but nod all the same. "Well thats one power I dont have unfortunatly. That aside we do need to do somthing soon... the question is what and can we do it alone?" He said this gravely and looked to the clear blue sky outside his tree house window, feeling that they were not alone in the search for this thing but not knowing that soon enough others would be comming to their aid...
(Today)
In the future this day would be known as Pre N-Day by those which inhabit the future Valeria Van Horne had so recently arrived from, the future which Earth 616’s Cable had somehow glimpsed into since his arrival in 617… It would be celebrated by many and feared by many more. It would mark the beginning celebrations in memoriam of the battles of N-Day, the day when the X-Men and Avengers failed to procure the Ultimate Nullifier from Mystique and her Brotherhood. N-Day, the day when rebel mutants rose to supremacy with a device powerful enough to reshape and even destroy all reality itself, when the world ended for humanity as a free species and those that would defend them became hunted as gene traitors.
Very few truly knew of this fate however and none who now fought within the Savage Land itself could imagine this event happening especially not Calvin Rankin as he pulled the gleaming organic metal blades on his hand from the side of the green humanoid pteranodon known as Sauron. It had been a lucky shot to catch his foe off guard as he had with the rope between the trees but as Mimic looked up he could see Shanna and Zabu already out for the count, surrounded by cyborg raptors with the mutates Amphibius and Barbarus at their sides. Only Ka’Zar and he still stood valiantly fighting on as the now house sized glowing dome was slowly slipping from their sight, pulled into a cave the cave like door of the Mutates lair.
“That is not good.” He growled low then turned as a rumble from behind caught his attention accompanied by the shrill sound of a flute. “Neither is that…” He groaned as a small stampede of dinosaurs burst through the trees with the mutate Piper on the back of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, piping away and using his powers to entrance the beasts.
This Calvin mad and more then just a little bit doubtful about their chances of winning let along getting out of this alive and all he could think of in that moment was his beloved Clarice. Part of him wished she were here, she was a great leader and her teleportation abilities would definitely come in handy then again… this was probably his last battle, maybe even the worse yet and if it was the last he would not wish her to be their… to feel the pain to come for anything in existence.
He shook his head from this little day dream, now was not really the time for such thoughts and with luck he didn’t know he had he managed to doge with great agility akin to Hank McCoy as the club like tail of an enraged ankylosaurus came crashing down on his position. “Little close for comfort there big fella!” He shouted with a glare knowing that even his Colossus style metallic skin could not withstand a hit like that. Nor could it withstand the charging curved horns of a Torosaurus which he also evaded with the same style of bestial agility, leaping onto its back and then off just in time to watch it crash into the Ankylosaurus and bowl it over with fierce momentum.
“Ka’Zar! This is getting out of hand. Take Shanna and Zabu away now while you have a chance!” He shouted to his ally who already moved to scatter the cyber-raptors and beat down the two powerful mutates in his path with fierceness only a lover and a true friend could exude. “What of you!” the wild man shouted back as he picked his companions up over his shoulders and moved towards the tree line but Mimic did not answer, his eyes were fixed on Piper who sat aloft the giant lizard king as both troubadour and general of this prehistoric army. He glared as felt his eyes glow with powerful red energy before releasing it in one cycloptic blast at both the T-Rex and his rider.
The Tyrannosaurus buckles and fell with amazing force which shook the ground but the frail figure of Piper flew high into the sky, propelled by the powerful optic blast then fell several feet down into the dense jungle. Calvin didn’t want to kill, he didn’t like to kill… he just may have killed the mutate but now not the time to think on that either, if he didn’t get into the base whatever was inside that energy dome could very well allow Brainchild and his Mutates to kill more people and that he could not allow.
With his bone claws extended and covered in the organic metal skin of Colossus he moved swiftly through the now free and confused dinosaurs, over the bodies of several fallen Mutates to the wall of the Mutate lair, a giant metallic facility left over from the times Magneto ruled the Savage Land with an Iron Fist. These facts Mimic didn’t know, the history of his world was different but that didn’t matter, who built it, who controlled it… it didn’t matter all he needed to do was climb it and that is what he did slowly but surely.
As he reached the top, strangely unmolested he looked down into an open roof hatch and though he could not see the energy thing they had found and taken within he could see what seemed to him to be the makings for a rocket like ship fairly simple in design and unfinished.
“Going somewhere outsider?” A growling yet somewhat seductive voice appeared from behind him. He knew this voice to be that of Lupa, another Mutate, a feral woman with physiology, strength and feral power of a wolf and a powerful pheromone able to place others under her thrall. He had met her a few times now and each time she was accompanied by…
Mimic grabbed his throat and fell through the skylight hole in the roof several stories down to the floor with a whip tied tightly to his throat and held by… “Lupo…” He grunted as the other wolf like beast man growled and pounced upon his prone form, slashing at his already torn uniform and the metallic chest with razor like claws. “You can’t hurt me that easily!” Calvin shouted and kneed upward into Lupo’s groin then slashed down with his own claws across the mutates chest causing him to stagger back and collapse in bloodied pain. No sooner though had Mimic risen to his feet did Lupa leap down upon his back and tare further at him, the claws screeching against his metallic frame and causing long dents which would no doubt be deep slashes were he in his natural fleshy state. “Enough!” He shouted, turning his head to hit her with a low level optic blast to send the beast woman flying and crashing against a wall. “I gotta reach the thing that crashed. I can’t let whatever it is stay in your hands Mutates!”
“Oh but I'm afraid that is where it shall stay stripling. You have no chance of procuring it form our superior hands you pathetic sack of mutant biomaterial.” The screeching voice of Brainchild erupted from speakers above Mimic causing him to look up, his biggest mistake for at that said same moment he was caught unawares by high pitched psionic waves. He immediately fell to his knees in pain, his head feeling as though it were ripping apart from his inside and the whole of reality itself turning upside down and inside out. It was all he could do to look up and see the beautiful green haired Vertigo standing over him with her fellow mutates Equilibrius and Lorelei at her side, all three firing their own powers at him at the same time. “You see whelp, it was obvious to my superior mind that physical attacks would do little to you while inside that metal shell… I needed something more inventive and insidious for you, something which would not bounce of your shining physique. These three… they were perfect for such a job don’t you think!” Brainchild’s voice cackled with childlike glee, the sound of his clapping hands could even be heard for a moment over the speakers before all sound itself disappeared for mimic and all that was left was the white noise and the feeling of loss of control. He was almost out… he could not stand, this was it Calvin’s last battle… he was going… going…
“Get up Cal… don’t give up… I love you… I lost you once and I don’t want too again… please Cal… get up…”
Clarice’s voice… his love…
Mimic slowly raised himself to his full height though in truth he could feel nothing anymore throughout his body. He glared at the three who attacked him so efficiently though to him they spun in circles and moved upside down and swayed as if standing on fierce waters. He moved slowly towards them to mutates complete astonishment though he could feel no floor under him, though he could barely draw in breath to feed his muscles the oxygen they needed. “Clarice!!!” He shouted out with all the will he had left in him and lunged forward, knocking Vertigo over and causing the other two to stumble as well. His blade like claws pulled form her shoulders he breathed in with the little respite from their assault and dodged another attack from Equilibrius, making sure to kick Lorelei in the face and knock her out before she too could gather herself for another assault. “Clarice!!!!” He shouted again hearing her voice within him, urging him to keep fighting, to keep living.
With the sight of his female comrades sprawled at his feet Equilibrius quickly turned and ran for the nearest exit to this launching bay. A relief to Mimic who again collapsed to his knees knowing that he would need to again move soon, that Equilibrius and Brainchild would not let this small defeat stand for long. But he was too wounded now, he was deaf and almost blind, his body ached and his lungs were still not working properly. Wolverines healing factor which he possessed alongside his claws would in time heal these wounds but not quick enough, not as fast as if this power were at 100% within him instead of 50%. No if he was to live and fight on he needed to get out and quick.
He crawled along the floor slowly towards his only means of escape, the shuttle which stood poised to take any who used it out of the Savage Land and the world beyond.
“Noooo!!! Stop him!!! It took me Weeks to build that!!! Stop him you Fools!” Brainchild’s voice whined and wailed over the speaker system though Mimic could not hear it anymore nor would he have cared if her could as his goal was slowly achieved and he sat within the rockets cockpit. A bit of shoddy and, more then likely, inaccurate programming and the shuttle though incomplete shot to life with bursts of fire from its tail.
Mimic could see himself rising in the air for a moment before he blacked out. He only hoped as the shuttle took him into the sky that he had programmed the destination correctly. Were he off or were he to be shot down all would be soon lost… not only for him but perhaps the world.

He said this gravely and looked to the clear blue sky outside his tree house window, feeling that they were not alone in the search for this thing but not knowing that soon enough others would be comming to their aid...
