Real Name: HJÖRDIS (pronounced H-YOR-DIS)
Mutant/Hero/Villain name: Valkyrie
Nick Name: Blondie, but only if you don’t mind losing a limb for calling her that.
Canon or custom: Canon/custom
Age: Appears to be 26, but is closer to several hundred years old. Valkyrie doesn’t bother counting the years…
Place of Birth: Asgard
Nationality: Asgardian
Affiliation: The Avengers
Rank/Occupation: None
Gender: Female
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 323 pounds
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Blue
Build: She is quite tall for a woman, but has the physique to match. There are plenty of curves, but there is muscle as well for she is a warrior in every sense of the word.
Markings: None
Known Relatives: None
Powers: Valkyrie has superhuman strength, able to lift close to 45 tons. She has the typical longevity, immunity to diseases, and resistance to injury of all Asgardians. Her agility, stamina and endurance are also better than the average Asgardian due to her battle training and experience. Valkyrie senses the deathglow of nearby individuals approaching the time of their death. She can transport herself and others to the realm of the dead.
Valkyrie maintains mental links with other Valkyrior, including inactive ones. While acting as the leader of the Valkyrior, she has access to mystical skills and dimensional traveling powers unavailable to her otherwise. These might be the powers and knowledge going with the rank rather than unique to her. She can pass a portion of her life essence to others.
(See Paraphernalia and Equipment for details on her sword and the powers it provides)
Abilities: She has had extensive training in sword fighting as well as unarmed combat and horseback riding.
Paraphernalia and Equipment: She carries a sword, a spear, and a dagger strapped to her thigh. When going into battle, she will carry a small shield as well. [[Her sword is the legendary sword Dragonfang. Dragonfang is an indestructible sword wielded by the Asgardian goddess Brunnhilda, who was also known as Valkyrie. Legend states that the sword was created by an ancient oriental wizard named Kahji-da. Kahji-da is said to have forged the sword thousands of years ago out of the tusk of an un-named extradimensional dragon. Hjordis, having taken over leadership of the Valkyrior after Brunnhilda’s death, sought the sword in the aftermath of Ragnarok and, with the help of Tony Stark, recovered it from a Hydra base.]]
It should be noted here that Dragonfang grants Valkyrie powers and strength. When she unsheathes the weapon with intent, the sword taps into the power of the dragon used to create it and Hjordis battles its will. Strong, focused emotions are the only way to win and it takes a great deal of energy to wrestle the dragon’s fury, though she gains experience each time she wields the blade. Once controlled, the dragon’s power grants her strength beyond reckoning and enhances her own powers exponentially. It also transforms her somewhat; whatever clothes she was wearing before is replaced with black and gold scale armor that comes with a pair of fully functioning dragon wings. Arms and legs are bound with golden arm and leg bands that act as shields and a circlet sits upon her brow, the center decoration that of a screaming dragon’s head. In its jaws sits a black jewel that neither reflects nor gives light. Only adamantium is stronger than the sword itself.
This form can be sustained so long as Hjordis retains control over the dragon’s rage. Once initially controlled, it was somewhat easier to maintain though it does get harder the longer she wields the blade. This control is crucial; if she loses her hold on the dragon’s power, its spirit will be unleashed and who knows what kind of havoc would be wrought by a furious, unfathomably powerful dragon?
Once sheathed, the dragon’s power is forced to lie dormant in the sword once more and the transformation reverses. The aftermath leaves Valkyrie physically weak and mentally drained. Not completely incapacitated, but as close she would ever like to get. The longer she uses the sword’s power, the weaker she becomes once she relinquishes control of it. This power can be accessed at most once per day and she must recover her energy before attempting it again.

Personality: Valkyrie is blunt yet strangely formal at the same time. She has a deep, deep sense of honor, duty, and responsibility. When she makes friends, she makes friends for life. The same goes for enemies. Given her lengthy lifespan thus far, she is rather worldly and jaded most times, but there are some things that bring out a surprising innocence and naiveté in the centuries old Asgardian. Once she sets herself to a goal, she will do anything to accomplish it. Focus is not usually her weak area.
Those dealing with her had best mind their manners. She does not often tolerate rudeness.
History: Hjordis, like the other Valkyrior, choose which souls of dead warriors will be taken to Valhalla. It is a function she has performed for centuries, first under the leadership of Brunnhilda, the original Valkyrie, and second with herself as leader. In addition to these duties, she and her Valkyrior sisters defend Valhalla and Asgard when it comes under threat.
The greatest threat of all, Ragnarok, was an event she spent her entire life preparing for to the exclusion of all else. Her duties lay in building the armies of Valhalla, keeping herself in peak battle condition, and making sure her sister Valkyrior did the same. Of her sisters, she is unmatched in battle, though not even that saved her or any of her own from death, however temporary.
In the aftermath of Ragnarok, many lives were lost and the original Asgard was destroyed. With the great battle over and her race slowly being restored by Thor, she flounders to find her place. Ragnarok is over and she no longer need prepare for it. The Valkyrior are diminished in number and her sisters work to pick up the pieces of a shattered realm. She herself seeks worthy souls to fill Valhalla’s halls once again in new Asgard, but Asgard itself contains too little. With the restoration of Valhalla as her new goal, she is not satisfied with what is available in her new home. But there are other places, other realms, which hold worthy warriors and their souls have cried out to her in death. But to take them to Valhalla is to break the agreement Odin forged with the Celestials. In her fervor and zeal to rebuild Valhalla to its former glory, she harvested souls from a place forbidden during a time of great strife. For her punishment, she was banished by Thor, the new ruler of new Asgard, to the very place she had crossed to. Midgard. Also known as Earth.
RP Sample:
The sky was so blue.
It was her first thought when she opened her eyes to look upon the land of Midgard. Not a single cloud dared mar the smooth perfection of that blue sky, the same blue as the eyes that stared at it, yet she felt nothing but a great weight upon her heart.
Banishment. Exile.
Punishment.
All for doing that which she had thought was best for Valhalla. Best for Asgard. With a sharp stab of bitterness that left a foul taste in her mouth, Hjordis wondered at the wisdom of upholding an agreement made by a dead man. The All Father was gone, a tragedy she would mourn for perhaps the rest of her life, but Odin was indeed dead. Why should his agreements regarding Midgard still be applicable?
She stood there on that rise of hill for a long time and contemplated her fate, a winding ribbon of black asphalt in the distance her only indication that life was nearby. She stood until the sun began to set and the colors exploded across that blue and changed it to fire orange, red, pink, and the deep purple of encroaching night.
With a broken sigh, she wiped the silent tears from her cheeks with swift, angry movements of her hand and set boots to earth. With no idea of what next to do, Valkyrie walked the lonely road until the lights of the city beyond lightened the sky and the pulsing life of it seemed to buzz through the air, even at this great distance.
New York. Perhaps there would be a place for her here, though she be not worthy of Valhalla any longer.
