It had been a long night and now the day was well on its way to midday. It was only now that Sage had been deemed fit enough to leave the medical facilities. Not entirely fit no, but fit enough to go back to her office and rest. There would be no strenuous activities for her until both her shoulder and mind were fully healed but neither would keep her from doing her job nor would any amount of bruising or superficial cuts. She walked along the corridor her trademark cybernetic shades covering her eyes. She wasn't just walking however she was rerunning images from her office where the young man she had apprehended awaited her arrival.
It seemed to her after witnessing the hostile forces that lurked within that before he could be allowed any form of training or interaction with other potential team members he needed to learn control and fast for if all it took was him to be knocked out in order for those forces to be unleashed she could not risk public safety by allowing him to remain free. She swiped her key card unlocking her office door before walking in and taking a seat behind her desk currently just watching the young man waiting for him to open the conversation.

Damien sat silently staring forward at the SHIELD Directors desk. He felt tired and sore from what had happened and yet in an odd way he felt stronger then he had ever been. His spirit was empowered by the experience and that along was enough to make a small smile appear on his bruised face for but a moment.
He could already sense Sage’s approach when she neared the room. It had nothing to do with mutant powers as he still had an inhibitor chip in his arm and also had nothing to do with his demonically granted powers; it had to do with skills, those taught to him by Logan when he was a student. He could hear her foot fall in the corridor outside even through the hum of the ship, he could tell from the way the feel moved they were strong and reminiscent of one in charge. The steps were also slow, a little slower they sounded they should me which meant that this person was not just taking their time but in some way sick or injured. Lastly he could hear several people in the hallways quiet themselves and even stop as the feet moved, a sign of awe, respect or fear… maybe all three. All this together it came as no surprise to him when Director Sage entered the room and took her seat behind the desk. He didn’t flinch or move he did not even raise his eyes to meet hers he only stared at her desk in a dazed sort of way though in truth there was no daze left in him. He was clear minded aside from the physical fatigue he felt and he was oddly at peace.
“You heal fast… must have some fancy gadgets on this boat.” He said in a slightly amused tone followed by a sigh. He could feel her eyes on her and this time he would give her the satisfaction of giving in, at least to conversation if not just to piece the silence of the room. “But I’m sure not all wounds from this experience can be healed so quickly.” Finally his eyes rose to her a defiant glare still evident in them even now as she sat as a queen in front of a prisoner. “You have a lot of hate in you, and a dark side no one sees. You’re not alone inside you just as I’m not. She is in their waiting for her chance and Legion almost gave it too her. The door may not be open but the lock has certainly been giggles loose.” He remembered it all even as the demons had control. He could feel and see what it felt and saw, they were one in a sense and he now knew her mind, at least as much of it as someone like himself could understand. He wondered if Legion understood it better being not of this world, if the demons had more insight into her complex brain. That didn’t matter though, what mattered was he had won, and even she knew it… he had won over the demons and over her. He had been right, she had been wrong and no matter what she wanted to portray her plans had gone miserably array. Oh yes she had tested his strength of will and his goodness against devastating odds. She had tested his mind and his heart… that had been her plan but he had tested it against beings she really wasn’t ready for and he knew even now she could read his mind and know that he knew all of this from their contact. “You got what you wanted in a way you didn’t expect nor were prepared for. I warned you but you pushed ahead. I am only sorry you had to suffer so for your own ignorance… but I do not pity what you now must go through. I won… Legion lost… you lost as well in a sense. And in a way you also won, you gathered the information you wanted on me and you know now not to mess with the unknown, how long that lesson will bear on you is up to you alone.”
He paused for a moment wondering how much she was reading from his mind now or if her powers were still shaken by the experience. No, he knew they were not deep down but there was one question left…
“What now Sage?”

“It’s amazing what technology we hold here, but if you think I’m healed you would be far from wrong, I am simply able enough to return to my duties” She replied her eyes never budging nor her tone changing as she continued her reply “You know nothing of what resides within me no matter how much insight you believe you have and as for the lock being wiggled loose as you so graciously put it, you are wrong...there is nothing that I need keep locked away” It wasn’t exactly the truth but for her to reveal that she did in fact have a weakness once again could be disastrous.
“I already had the information I required before this morning’s encounter so don’t pride yourself with thinking that it was all for the sake of gleaning information about the darker forces at work within you and so you know I am not ignorant to the forces I witnessed today I have encountered similar things before and believe me when I say I doubt it will be the last time” She paused closing her eyes for merely a fraction of time to gather her thoughts, something’s were beginning to repair but as she sat in front of Damien at this moment her mind was still shaken by the experience and as such it was taking her longer than it should for the responses to his words to form in her mind.
When she did open her eyes again this time they did not meet with Damien’s, instead they glanced down at the desk and she moved to open a drawer and pull out a file. “That depends on you MacLeod” she retorted quickly before adding “Are you willing to join the ranks of SHIELD or must I ship you someplace you won’t come back from?” Only now did her eyes rise as she pushed the file across the desk towards Damien. Inside of which were an offer of a job, job description, salary details and of course the contract....all just waiting on his signature.

He knew that this affected her more then she wished to ever admit. She was rattled and no matter what she said to defend her authoritative and powerful stance he knew that her shell was cracked and it would take a long time for her to heal it. “Must hurt to know you have been brought down a peg from your technopathic non-emotional ivory tower.” He smirked though it was rude it was true and sat back with a sigh. “I would read your contract, I may even sign it but I'm a bit tied up at the moment.” He cocked his head and stretched his arms out behind his back where the cuffs restrained him. “Makes it a little hard to do anything wouldn’t you say?” He laughed, Damien could feel his old vigor coming back to him again, the same defiance and energy he had before he had been taken into custody.
He leaned back in his chair, watching the beautiful mature woman trying to gather herself, compose and find more of a semblance to who she was before this whole ordeal. He wondered how much the other personality inside her plagued her mind. Probably not much before, she was strong willed and had a brain perhaps like no others. Her mental shields had been impressive even to Legion but they, in the end, proved useless and now as he had said the door, though not open, was loose. Could she contain the darkness in her? He really wondered that.

His comments didn't bother her, she had heard worse upon many occasions and even today after the ordeal of earlier he could not rattle her, at least not as he was sat in front of her. Slowly she rose from her seat and approached him before pulling from her belt a key that would unlock the cuffs. The locks clicked as each was undone and before very much time had passed at all Sage had returned to her seat on the opposite side of the desk. "You have your opportunity" She said curtly picking her own pen up off the desk and tossing it towards him with her good arm.
"I suggest you sign the papers so we can stop this foolishness" The sooner he signed them or chose not to, the sooner she could begin to let him go through the training or be rid of him and his problems. She had no real urge at the moment to be where she was, but needs dictated otherwise and until she had solved this particular problem she was not going to rest or be able to.

“Foolishness? What foolishness is that? Tell me Sage has anyone my age ever spoken to you like this? Has anyone my age or in my position ever denied you what you want or been able to challenge you like me? You don’t like it and I can see that in your eyes but you also know that if I sign that I will be one of your best Agents.” He rubbed his wrists and in return for catching the pen she tossed at him he tossed to her the cuffs which until now had restrained him. “You mite need those hot stuff incase you get a date.” He laughed darkly knowing full well from within her mind how wild her darkest fantasies were even the sexual ones and picked up the contract. It was standard enough but he could tell from what they were offering she did want him bad and she appreciated the skills he had, in so short a time in his life, had mastered. She had even slipped in the clause she had offered back at his apartment concerning Amara. He doubted now after seeing how happy she was with TJ that he would get her back but it was reassuring to know he did have options were such a thing to happen.
He looked over the contract page for page; he took his time and read it thoroughly. He understood the legal language as if it were plain street slang, in fact in some cases he understood it better then what he heard younger kids and teens his age using on the streets. He could see both the advantages and draw backs to working for SHEILD but one thing was for sure he would never sign away anything without knowing everything first… he may or may not have lost his soul to hell he would not chance loosing anything else.
“Aye I bet your wearing black underwear aren’t you?” He chuckled again as his eyes moved over the top of the papers to her again and winked in the cocky fashion he had. “But seriously… it all seems to be there but I disagree on several factors. I do not need special training to control the demons inside. You must understand the fact that they came out when I was knocked out was irrelevant. You put the inhibitor chip on me which shut down my powers one of which as you know is Dream Walking. Which means even in an unconscious state I am still in full control of myself as well as other aspects of the sleeping world. When I have my powers I can be knocked unconscious or sleep and never need to worry for I am always aware of the Legion. As for on the rare occasions I do not have them, if you know anything about demons as you say you do… unless you are an expert in magic and the paranormal you have no chance of fighting or holding off such entities without protections spells… its not a matter of self discipline but power. Event the Sorcerer Supreme has difficulty with demons and he is the best there is.” He clicked the pen a few times before putting it and the contract both down in front of him. “I also don’t see the reason for psychological assessments and testing. I’m fine mind and body, the fact that I have 1000 demons taking up residence in my body does not make me unstable thank you very much.” He laughed because he knew how crazy that would sound to anyone else but it was the truth.

"I have met people like you before MacLeod and frankly neither you nor they impressed me, as for being one of my best agents if you sign on the dotted line you certainly do have a high opinion of yourself and i'd be careful of that, i trust you have heard the saying the bigger the ego the bigger the fall from grace?" Catching the cuffs as he tossed them back at her she carefully hooked them on her belt ignoring his quip about her needing them should she get a date. When however he decided to presume the color of her underwear she didn't ignore it, there were some things she would let slide but others she felt a compulsion to respond to. "Actually they are white and you haven't got a chance of seeing them" she said her eyes flashing with a little mischievousness behind them.
"You will undergo the training, all agents are expected to undergo training appropriate to their powers and because yours tie in with your demonic forces there is a need to make sure you can control them and last night was not merely a fluke that you regained control so quickly, as for the psychological aspect it is compulsory that any agent that shall be based in the field has undergone it, it is not simply to deem whether or not you are unstable but whether or not you have the correct mentality for decision making while under immense pressure" She rubbed the bridge of her nose lightly "Is there anything else you wish to question?"

“Auch, I question all of this, very underhanded and bordering on illegal. From what I know of Nick Fury from the history books and word of mouth he was an underhanded bastard too but he had honor at least, you dinnae have any and that’s for sure. SHEILD just isn’t what it used to be.” Damien growled low picked up the papers again, glancing them over quickly over for a second time before picking up the pen. “But I have nae a choice do I?” He glared at Sage over the papers and signed his name making sure to toss the pen and papers at her face forcefully. “I work for you now… enjoy it because it’s gonna be a long, wild and bumpy ride and you are daft if you think I’m gonna make any of this easy on you.”
He continued to glare daggers into Sage, only smirking at her sarcastic and somewhat angered answer towards his comments towards her personal life. He intended to make this all a living hell for her while also proving himself to be one of the best Agents SHEILD will ever have. She had changed his life direction and this would not go unpunished. “Now what?”

He presumed she had no honor? How little the boy truly knew about her and she would take the greatest of pleasures in showing him up at every point. Even now as she sat behind her desk awaiting his signature on the dotted line she could tell he would spell nothing but trouble for her team but one thing was sure, neither the team leader nor herself would put up with any shenanigans he decided to throw. "Everybody has a choice MacLeod..Yours are simply at best limited" she replied glaring at him coldly. One thing she gave him was his honesty at least he was honest about how this would not be made easy on them but she had left a vital clause out of the papers he had just signed and now it was her turn to throw a spanner in the works.
"Oh i almost forgot, there is a minimum contract period of a year with SHIELD, i must have forgotten to type that into your contract but it shall be added when this..." She paused waving the papers he had so carelessly tossed at her "..Is uploaded into the main servers" She knew this wouldn't go down well at all but he wanted to play games with her, well he was playing with the big boys now and games were something of a specialty of hers. He yet had to find out just how much she loved to manipulate and be underhanded.

“Oh? Interesting and illegal, you know as well as I do that once a contract is signed nothing can be added too it without the signees permission. Because it’s not in there if that contract is altered in any way now it becomes null and void. Legally you will need to pay me out in full, continue my benefits for one year and I will be free to do whatever I wish.” He chuckled as his parents as businessmen and his studies of law during his time at the Xavier Institute has taught him well. She better then anyone should have known better then to make such a mistake or such a stupid move in order to fuck him over. Then again she would find a way to pull it off without his ability to fight. He didn’t care though, he only smirked and sat back in the chair further, he didn’t mind a year and if things went well, if this new path brought him closer to his ultimate goal then he would go with it. If not he would jump ship and they could happily hunt him… He was not stranger at being on the other side of the law and he would certainly be more then enough for many a SHEILD agent if it came down to that. “Is that all?” He spoke now, no anger in his voice at her little trick, not even a hint of care in the world for it. Soon she would see what he had in mind and how little her trick had really affected him.

"We shall see" she simply replied finding his little argument against her added clause rather amusing. In the end it would boil down to his word against hers and well considering all other SHIELD contracts had a years minimum service in them, how likely were they to believe the boy over her? "That will be all, you may go down to level three and check in, from there you will be assigned quarters for when you are aboard the Helicarrier and your training schedule will be drawn up" She returned her eyes to the desk and with a wave of her hand motioned for him to leave the room.

Damien stood and left the room without a second glance back to Sage. He even thought of nothing as he moved from the room even if his mind was over all safe from invasion, they saw to that after all. Not a benefit he really wanted, not at the price it cost him but a benefit none the less. He would play the good soldier for now, he would prove himself to her and anyone else he had to but he would never make it easy on them. He would never roll over for them and he felt even as he passed a young woman in a red costume who, undoubtedly would be one of his team mates, an obvious super power whoever she was, he did not look twice no matter how attractive she was. His mind was only on two things now, proving himself and…
And Amara…
Maybe he had lost her forever but he would not go out without a fight, he would not go quietly into the night. He loved her more then anything, he still loved her and she needed to know that. Amara had to know he had not abandoned her…
Several floors down through the Helicarrier he came to where he had been instructed, Level Three Sign in Station. There, after producing some ID and having to up with a bad attitude from an Officer who obviously heard about the number he did on several of their Agents and their Director, Damien had what he needed to start on this new life and the computer access card to help ensure his old one would not go forgotten.
He sat the first computer terminal he could find and used his new SHEILD access code to enter the database. He didn’t have a lot of access, Sage was smart not go give it all up right away and the systems which governed these computers were exceptionally complicated, it would take time learn all he needed to know but for now he was happy enough to access a basic text communications system with access to internet systems.
He would at least tell his love… the last person in this life which meant anything to him what had happened.
------------------------------------------------------------- Data Field Enabled… Connection Established…. ------------------------------------------------------------- Amara,
My life has come to an impasse. I do not know when I will see you next but I want you to know that I love you more then life itself. You are my everything and I hope that you will never forget that. Not long after you left I was arrested by SHEILD and forced to sign on with them, it was either that or find myself in a Meta-Human prison for the rest of my life. I sit now in the Hellicarrier awaiting my next instructions but I promise you, just as it was for my X-Men instructors it will be a long, hard ride for these bastards. Nevertheless they have promised me that… if you can forgive me someday they will release me from service and allow me to have a life with you. I don’t know if their promises mean anything, especially their Director’s… but I will always fight for one purpose… I will always fight for you. I will fight to make sure this world is a safe and peaceful place for you to live in. I will fight to make sure you are never harmed again if it’s within my power.
I promise this…
Whatever you may think of me please try and remember, not the monster you saw the night we made love, but the man you loved, the man you gave your heart too. The man who loves you back from the deepest part of his soul… a soul that never could belong to evil because it belongs to you, always has and always will.
I remember the first time I saw you. Despite being a year older then me you looked so much younger, so scared, so confused as you fist entered Xavier Institute and so nervous to be there. I watched as they took you into Xavier’s office to talk with him. My heart skipped a beat. I kid you not. You were so perfect even then…
I was called into his office soon after and assigned to be your liaison in the school for the first few weeks. It was an assignment I would have gladly volunteered for. I could not stop looking at you and I don’t know if you even noticed. Even then I knew you were special. Over time we became the best of friends and my affection… my love for you grew.
I’m sorry… I'm rambling when I should make this short… I miss you… I feel I have lost you forever… I hope that’s not true. When I can I will come to the institute to see you… if I can’t find you there, well I still have my apartment I think. You can find me there or contact me through SHEILD.
I will always be here for you, I promised you that then and I promise you that now… it will never change.
Love Always, Damien ------------------------------------------------------------- Security Encryptions Disabled Accessing…. Accessing… Accessing… Message Sent To Designated Recipient -------------------------------------------------------------
Damien sat back and sighed with eyes closed. Amara would receive the message the next time she accessed her email. He hoped she would understand and he hoped no matter where she went, what she did or who she was with that she would forgive him someday.
Till then he would continue his path to redemption even through this new road in life. Wherever it would take him he would remember his sins and his love for Amara… that would forever fuel him.

Spider-Girl smirked under her mask as Damien MacLeod passed by, even daring to whistle at the young man through her symbiotic mask and shake her hips a little. She had business with Director Sage but that didn’t mean she couldn’t stop and smell the roses or maybe admire the sights. She certainly liked wild life and he seemed, from the rugged torn up look of him, quite wild enough for her.
When the young man was out of site she turned and continued her walk towards the Directors office, slipping in through the door just before the door could close automatically. It was great having powers which enhanced her reflexes and even her speed to an extent. It helped her in tight spaces so so well.
“So who’s the hottie that just walked out of here? Looks good enough to eat if you ask me…” Spider-Girl chirped and gave a teasing cat like growl before looking at her boss more closely and approaching the seats in front of her desk. “… and what the hell happened to you boss?” Spider-Girls tone went from playful to concerned at the drop of a hat as she saw the cuts on Sages face, the way she looked like a beat up and drug out rug.

As Damien left Sage sat back in her seat for a moment to relax before she felt the familiar tingle in her mind of a powered being coming close to her office. Leaning back on her desk with a small sigh she watched as Spider-Girl slipped into her office and as usual she was faced with a smart remark from the young woman. "That Hottie as you put it, is to be the new member of your team and he is also the one responsible for the injuries you see me bear, now what can i do for you?" she asked snapping sightly at Spider-Girl.
The woman may not have been at fault of anything but after her ordeal earlier Sage most certainly was not in the mood to deal with the usual lighthearted and cheeky comments that the young woman made so often. Raising the arm that wasn't held in a sling she signaled for the woman to take a seat and repeated her question this time with a little less venom in her voice "What have you come here to discuss?" she asked looking to the young woman's masked face for the first time properly since she'd entered the room.

Spider-Girl was surprised to hear this, the man she had just passed who, by the Directors own admission and the looks over her, had brutally beaten her to now closely resemble walking ground beef was to be a part of SHEILD. Despite how good the guy looked this made no sense… then again who the hell was she to question. She was someone who was going to be on a team with this potential bombshell nut job that’s who! “Well, if I may venture an opinion, you are severely fucked in the head boss. If he could do that to you… well I’m sure he would be an asset but how can you trust him?”
Spider-Girl shook her head anyways and sighed. It really wasn’t up to her and she had signed on to work for SHIELD, her inborn sense of duty loyalty compelled her to follow orders. Then again there was the other side, the parker side… now that wasn’t such a team player side. Maybe that’s why she felt she was such a well rounded person… She grinned at that thought under the living mask, her… well rounded… Yeah Right!!!
“Well the reason I came up here, yeah… right back to the subject at hand right?” She chuckled and took a seat in front of the Director with a sigh. “Well there is a man down in the detention level. A Baron Zemo. He just appeared on the carrier without notice or trace how he got here and was taken into custody after it was ascertained he did not belong. And mite I say that the guards who apprehended this man… they really need some retraining. I mean seriously… a man with a sword and gun, wearing a mask and looking like something out of dungeons and dragons… they needed to question him? Really?” She sighed and shook her head. “But I digress; this guy is refusing to talk to anyone else but the current Director of SHEILD.”
